An investigation on the best foot position on a stabilometer

概要 :

キーワード:Stabilometer, Foot position, Foot apical angle, Foot distance

:Abstract:

Investigation and research on the relative position of the feet in erect humans were carried out in order to decide the best foot position on the examining table of a stabilometer.

Repetitive measurement of examinees showed that the distance between the feet and the apical angle of the feet are different every time.

Furthermore, the apical angle was found to increase with age, while the distance between the feet decreases with age. The apical angle of the right foot is greater than that of the left and the apical angle of men is greater than that of women.

A transverse line should be painted showing the center of gravity of the examining table of the stabilometer (that is how far forward or back to stand on the table). It is best that the examinee be stood with his navicular bones centered over the line. Neither the distance between the feet nor the apical angle need be marked.

A Case Study of an Indirect Chiropractic Approach to the
Ossification of the Posterior Longitudinal Ligament in the Cervical Spine

Akihiro SUZUKI

概要 :

:Abstract:

In Chiropractic, spinal abnormalities or misalignments are believed to alter body functions by affecting both nerve tissue and nerve function. In Japan, chiropractors have very few opportunities to view pre- and post-treatment x-rays. Thus, they can not observe how treatments affect spinal alignment. It is even rarer to view x-rays of a patient with ossified posterior longitudinal ligament syndrome (OPLL).

This paper introduces a clinical case report of a patient with OPLL who was treated with an indirect chiropractic approach and whose cervical spinal alignment improved as viewed on x-rays. The primary diagnosis of OPLL was made by an orthopedist. The patient's chief complaint was stiffness in the shoulders and between the shoulder blades. His symptoms improved as his cervical alignment was corrected.

The Sacroiliac Joint as an Indicator

Hiroyuki OOYA

概要 :

:Abstract:

The sacroiliac joint is recognized as one of the best joints that must be adjusted for the method of chiropractic total care. The author, through the personal clinical study, reached to recognize the sacroiliac joint the important indicator, that signals any abnormalities of the body. And the author believes now, we do not need to adjust the sacroiliac joints. The sacroiliac joint would be distorted through the abdominal muscular imbalance to compensate for the dysfunction of vertebral articulations, thoracic cage, upper and lower extremities.

Any dysfunction of the articulation would be corrected by the involved muscular manipulation or muscular strengthen. Therefore, it is reasonable to clear the sacroiliac dysfunction through normalizing the abdominal imbalance. And it is the best method to clear the symptom.

An Observation on the Effect of Chiropractic Treatment
on Hip Joint Dysfunction

Yoshitaka ADUMA

概要 :

:Abstract:

This paper introduces two case reports: a lower back pain patient and a congenital dislocation of the hip patient. Although each patient was recommended to have surgery by orthopedists, both were successfully treated with chiropractic. The drawbacks of going through either an unnecessary surgical intervention or an unnecessary chiropractic intervention will be briefly discussed.

Case Report of Idiopathic Scoliosis that showed good improvement

EIJI Akitake

概要 :

:Abstract:

This paper addresses the importance of utilizing a digital camera as a monitoring device on patients with idiopathic scoliosis. Showing patients the pictures of their curvature of the spine and allowing them to monitor improvements in their condition lightens mental burdens that young female patients commonly encounter. The documentation of therapeutic progress on digital camera could be a step toward recognition of manual therapists from the medical society. It is our duty as manual therapists to utilize the digital camera and personal computer to evaluate the effectiveness of our treatments on patients with idiopathic scoliosis.

Clinical report of patients who complain sever neck, shoulder and arm pain (1st Report)

Hiroshi OBA

概要 :

:Abstract:

In our chiropractic practices we see patients who complain sever neck pain radiating to shoulder or into arm every year. These patients seldom respond preferably to chiropractic treatments. We need to understand the patho-mechanism of this disorder to provide the best service.

In this report the relationship between the blood- pressure (BP) and symptom is discussed. Generally these patients showed the high BP. However, the BP on the side of neck pain showed relatively lower BP value compared to the other side. The symptom seems to show up on the rebound from the long-standing stage of the sympathetic activity.

Introduction to Chiropractic Neurology

Akiyoshi ITO

概要 :

:Abstract:

This paper is to briefly introduce Chiropractic Neurology, a newly developed field of the profession, on its history, philosophy and clinical applications. Chiropractic Neurology is developed by Fredrick Robert Carrick, D.C., Ph.D. who received the award for the Neurologist of the Year in 1997. The essence of Chiropractic Neurology is to detect levels of lesions in the entire nervous system by utilizing thorough neurological examinations and to treat the lesions with various non-invasive methodologies including chiropractic manipulation. Currently there are about 560 certified chiropractic neurologists in the world (as of March 2002). Carrick has brought coma patients back to consciousness more than once. His work was broadcast through the Public Broadcasting Program in the United States, titling "Waking Up the Brain. Amazing Adjustments." Why this method works and how it differs from majority of the traditional chiropractic approaches will also be discussed in this paper.
